Hunting seasons

1) - The savannah hunting season in Nord Cameroon is open from Dec. 1st. till May 31st. The days are nice and warm from December to March, the nights being pleasant and cool. After the heat increases till the first rains. Toward the end of the season it can be really hot.
2) - On the forest concession in E. Cameroon hunt is open from December 1st till June 30th. However the best season for forest hunting is from March 10 till June 30th, and especially after the start of the rains, when it is easier for the hunter to move around without making much noise, an essential condition when tracking for instance bongo.

The hunt
Hunting is done in a strictly ethical way (no shooting from cars, no use of dogs for hunting bongo, etc..) and requires a certain degree of fitness. Like everywhere, shooting training is also essential .

Also the various administrative, etc. steps necessitate time, weeks or even months. In a special chapter we shall give specific advice on these.

We are hunting on three concessions:
- 2 near the National Benue Hunting Reserve for the savannah safaris

- in the region of Bertoua, not very far from the Central African border for forest safaris

The hunt is starting from camp in a 4WD car with your French PH as well as local trackers and porters. As soon as fresh tracks of the game species you are looking for are found, these are followed on foot.

For large tusker forest elephant 12 hunting day safaris are organized with porters who are setting up a tent camp at evening. (During 10 days in course of these safaris no return to the base camp). In addition to the forest elephant various forest game species (bongo, dwarf forest buffalo, sitatunga, yellow backed duiker, etc.) can be shot against a special supplementary success premium.

Duration of the hunt:
Mayo Oldiri Safari organizes safaris according to the wishes of the hunter, the game species and availability of game on the quota, from 8 to 21 hunting days. Most of these safaris can be arranged for 1 or 2 hunters. Other, specialized safaris, for instance for forest or savannah elephants, or for Central African giant (Lord Derby's) eland can only be done on a 1:1 basis.
